JACKSONVILLE, FL - MAY 21, 2006 - In beautiful sunny weather 230 kayak fisherman took to the inshore waters of North Florida in the 3rd annual Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Classic. With over $45,000 in prizes, 90 sponsors, and 230 paddlers, the Classic is the largest kayak fishing event in the world to date.

The catch-photo-release tournament is run by JaxKayakFishing.com, Jacksonville's kayak fishing community, and is for the benefit of charities danielkids and St. Johns Riverkeeper. In an incredible showing of support from the kayak fishing community the Classic raised over $18,000 for the children of Daniel and the Riverkeeper. "We are overwhelmed and stunned by the show of generosity from the kayak anglers of North Florida, and are thrilled JaxKayakFishing chose to support Daniel", said Jim Clark, President of Daniel.

First place honors in the redfish-trout-flounder slam with 62" went to Greg Chapman of Jacksonville, FL, who won a Hobie Adventure kayak. Chapman was followed by Brad Walton with 56", Joe Carroway Sr. with 54", and Parker Smith at 53". Local Jeff McLaughlin won a Malibu Extreme kayak by taking biggest red with a 30.1" red. Capt. Roger Bump took biggest trout honors and a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 160i kayak with a 24.8" trout. Jeffrey McGovern of Palatka. Augustine took biggest flounder honors with a 20" flattie, and brought home an Ocean Kayaks Prowler for his efforts.

The fly division had some great catches but nobody could keep up with Andy Stafford, who took home top honors and a Heritage Redfish kayak in the redfish-trout slam for fly fisherman. Stafford also had a full inshore slam including a legal flounder, quite a rare event for fly fishing. Capt. Bryan McGowan won the biggest red on fly division with a 23.25" redfish, and Troy James took top honors for biggest trout on fly with a 16.5" fish.

The Classic pulled together all of Jacksonville's kayak and fishing retailers into a world-class event led by Strike-Zone Fishing, Black Creek Outfitters, Dick's Sporting Goods, and All Wet Sports to name just a few of the 90 sponsors. Temple Fork Outfitters sponsored the Jr. Angler award which went to Parker Smith for his slam stringer of 53". Lady Angler honors went to 11 year old Marena Haley with a 50" slam stringer.
